Description
Villa Ioulia was built in 1880 by Mikhail Zannos, a seaman from Oddessa, as a dowry to his daughter Evangelia. The house in its original form was a neo-classical building, consisting of 13 rooms all internally decorated with frescos and furniture from St.Petersburg. On July 9, 1956, the house suffered serious damage from a 7.8 Richter scale earthquake, when its North corner collapsed, while the Canava level and the rest of the estate remained intact. Through the government's earthquake compensation program, the house was replaced by a much smaller and architecturally different structure. The house was renovated in 2015 when the owner, Maria, restored it to its initial volume and refurbished all the antiques and collections that had been salvaged from the original house.
